Make the State Pay for YOU.

Did you Know...

You can support renewable energy and help save the environment when you take advantage of SCE’s rebates on fixed and tracking photovoltaic (solar energy) systems, as part of the California Solar Initiative. In addition, you will play an important part in helping the state move towards a cleaner energy future.

How Much Is the Incentive?

Incentives are based upon the size and characteristics of the installation and your customer classification (i.e., an increased incentive level is available to Government and Non-Profit Organizations).

  • Systems less than 100 kW are eligible for the Expected Performance Based Buydown (EPBB) incentive. Or, you can elect to receive Performance Based Incentive payments in lieu of the EPBB incentive.
    • Homeowners and businesses - maximum incentive of $2.50 per Watt
    • Government and Non-profit Organizations - maximum incentive of $3.25 per Watt
  • Systems that are 100 kW or greater are eligible for a Performance Based Incentive (PBI) payments.
    • Homeowners and business - Receive a monthly rebate check of 39 cents per kWh produced over a period of five years
    • Government and Non-profit Organizations - Receive a monthly rebate check of 50 cents per kWh produced over a period of five years

How it Works...

To obtain an incentive on a solar energy system, you must complete the following four steps:

  • 1.- Select a Solar Installer
  • 2.- Submit an Application
  • 3.- Install Your System
  • 4.- Collect Your Rebate

1. Select a Solar Installer:

The California Energy Commission has a list of solar installers on their website at www.consumerenergycenter.org/erprebate/database/fulllist.php

2. Submit an Application:

You or your solar installer* must complete the CSI Application and return it to SCE in order to reserve your incentive amount. After the SCE Program Administrator receives your completed application and in some cases an application fee, you will receive a letter confirming your reservation. The letter will reserve incentive funds for you, based upon the size of your solar project.

In order for you to retain your incentive reservation, you must be able to provide documentation on your progress, to show that you are moving forward with your installation.

* A solar installer can, on your behalf, apply for an incentive and arrange for your system to be interconnected to SCE’s power grid. The installer may also apply for local permits, if applicable.

3. Install Your System:

Upon completion of your solar installation, you or your installer must contact SCE for permission to connect your system to SCE’s power grid. An interconnection application may be obtained at www.sce.com/rebatesandsavings/generatingyourownpower

4. Collect Your Rebate!

Once your system is connected, the site passes inspection and all the information is completed, you will receive your EPBB rebate or begin receiving your PBI performance payments.

Savings

One way to help pay for your PV system is through lower utility bills over time. If you're creating some of your own electricity, your electric bills will be lower each month. Yet it's difficult to estimate your savings, because it depends on the future price of electricity, which is uncertain at the moment. However, if you assume that you offset the higher-cost electricity rates are $0.20 per kilowatt-hour, a 2kW system could save between $626 and $796 per year, depending on many factors. To get a better idea of how much you can save with solar energy ask for a free system estimation.

Financing Options

If you decide to get PV System, you'll need to come up with some money up front. Depending on the type, location, and size of the PV system, there are a number of financing options available, including:

  • Refinancing
  • 2nd mortgages
  • Home equity loans
  • Home improvement loans

We recommend EGIA, our proven financial partner for years. We will support you in all aspects regarding financing.

EGIA

The Electric & Gas Industries Association (EGIA) is a non-profit, California based trade association. Founded nearly 70 years ago to manage some of California's earliest energy rebate programs, EGIA today leads the way in developing, promoting and administering a broad spectrum of energy conservation efforts. These efforts include rebate processing and home improvement financing. EGIA also dedicates significant resources to government and industry relations, actively participating in meetings with the California Public Utilities Commission, the California Energy Commission, the California Consumer Power and Conservation Financing Authority and the state legislature.
